Read →Updated 2026-10-15Tales of Eternia Remastered is a 2D action RPG from 2001 given a full modern release: the same story, the same linear battle plane, the same elemental Craymel system, with new visuals, a new English dub, restored skits and options that make it far easier to finish.

Two worlds face each other across the sky. Inferia is green, warm and devout, and treats its elemental spirits as sacred. Celestia is cold, clouded and industrial, and treats the same spirits as batteries. Between those two attitudes is a collision course neither side has time to stop, and the party you build out of the game's six playable characters is all that stands in its way.
Before you start
- Take the Morle detour. The Orz Earrings from Professor Mazet are what let the party understand Melnics, the language every Craymel arte is cast in. Nothing downstream makes sense without them.
- Turn Boost on. The remaster's single best addition adjusts experience gain and encounter rate on one scale. High while travelling, low inside dungeons.
- Buy weapons before armour. Attack power shortens fights; defence is a soft wall you out-scale anyway.
- Keep an elemental weapon of each type in the bag. Every Greater Craymel is weak to something, and none of them are weak to themselves.
- Watch for skit prompts. They appear briefly, and a missed trigger is gone for that visit.
Straight answers
What is it a remaster of? The 2001 PlayStation release, which shipped in North America as Tales of Destiny II. This version is based on the later handheld port with a new English script.
How bad is the countdown? Not bad at all. The Grand Fall is a plot deadline rather than a timed mechanic — there is no clock, and you can explore and grind as long as you like.
Which difficulty? Standard is the original balance. Extreme is available on a fresh save; Unknown unlocks after you clear the game.
Does the remaster change the combat? No. Same Aggressive Linear Motion Battle System, including the rule that only one spell animates at a time.
